Our show, the XXX Happy Hour on XROCK, went "Yacht Rock" for an hour and re-identified as Smooth 101 FM.

What's "Yacht Rock"? Here's a crash course:

Although they didn't coin the phrase, these gentlemen rocked the shit out of that vibe. Who among us didn't love this music? Michael McDonald is the fucking man, c'mon.

My partner Shane Garry (not what you're thinking, but yeah I totally would) and I threw together a masterful tribute to this era and the "Yacht Rock" series.

Enjoy.

I held out on the Vista years, opting for XP Professional (32-bit) on an amped, custom built system. The 32-bit OS was a nightmare considering the potential of the machine, but due to budget and disdain for my limited options I held out. Windows 7 hit and I knew it was time for an upgrade. Thanks to a college friend, I purchased W7Pro, 64-bit at a completely palatable $30 from the Windows741 site. A new hard-drive purchase added some excitement to the upgrade and I spent a Friday winter night warming my hands beside a PC / space heater during the install.

Six years is a long time on the same OS. Things got stale, and it seemed as though Microsoft was sliding down the hill. Windows 7 changed that outlook, but I knew Microsoft had taken a long look at what was coming out of Cupertino. Another Vista would have been a catastrophe, and Apple was turning up the heat in their ad campaigns.

I believe Microsoft succeeded with Windows 7. It's a smooth, cohesive OS that responds well to high performance machines. The ability to create RSS fed photo-backgrounds blew me away. It's a simple concept, but I realized I haven't been expecting enough of my OS. Little improvements, such as right-clicks opening a new world of options, were welcome.

I made a sickening discovery one day while fixing a relative's Vista laptop. I must preface this by saying I NEVER used Vista. Hated the thought of it. I was horrified to find Windows 7 is remarkably similar to Vista. I guess that's a bit strong, but disappointed is accurate. I thought this was revolutionary stuff for MS; turns out I was wrong. Guess they're saving that for the new mobile OS.

Today I unboxed a new Macbook Pro. What better time to take a crack at another OS than a month after a big Windows upgrade. Maybe it's the challenge of a new OS that makes the MBP itself so appealing to me. We could have a convert.

Videos!
I have a little more free time than I did during the marketing gig during tax season, so I fine-tuned my resume a bit. It's online here, and available as a downloadable PDF here.

And some basic info about me is located here.

I'm a big fan of funny things, but I'm also a big fan of intense work. I am pretty personally engaged in the work I do, and when on a job or project I like to get things done. I just completed an intensive, four-month gig in Austin, Texas managing and executing the digital and analogue marketing for a tax company. It's not sexy work, but I like to move and travel for jobs and it was a great chance to meld both old and new media. I also had a pretty large staff to manage and lots of details to keep in order. It was intense, but great.

Before that I was a DJ for a rock station in the Black Hills.

I'm recovering from the marketing job (trust me - four months of seven day work weeks and 14 hour days requires some recovery time), but I'm already itching for the next gig.

Anyway, I hope you dig the changes. Keep an eye out for more to come - over the next few weeks I'll add several more photographs, as well as a video highlight page.

Thanks.

Well, time went on and I was too busy with work to really develop something serious. Hilariously, I later found out that my buddy Dan Patterson owns 'vlogmob dot tv.' So, we decided to collaborate and make something fun. Again, the site isn't serious - just a Tumblr of a few video clips from around the web. But we dig it and may eventually turn it in to something cool.

A few years ago I was involved with co-producing the Creepy Sleepy Show podcast. Creepy Sleepy was one of the very early independent podcasts, and we produced the show on zero budget with crappy gear. Times have obviously changed, but that content remains really strong.

One of the best parts of the show was our friend Curtis. Curtis was great! He lived near us in Spearfish, South Dakota and had a heart of gold. He was also a very early video podcast/vlog/internet star. Really.

Curtis' video show, That's Our Curtis!, ran for about a year and was recorded on a simple Samsung cell phone. I think it still holds up.

Here are all the clips from That's Our Curtis! Play 'em in a row - it's like a funny movie!
